Austria's new squad shines in Vienna and looks ahead

On Sunday, the Austrian football national team faced Kosovo, coached by Franco Foda, in the Nations League in Vienna. Under Ralf Rangnick's selection, six newcomers started and the team won 3-1. The fresh squad immediately showed a positive outlook on the immediate future.

Rangnick's choice fell on a mix of experience and youthful vigor. In addition to the established centre-backs Kevin Danso and Maximilian Wöber, the 19-year-old Christian Zawieschitzky and other new signings made their first appearance in the starting eleven. The team appeared well organised despite the many new arrivals.

New players give fresh perspective

Six newcomers started, giving the team an unmistakable momentum. The young kids quickly became the block that shaped the game with high intensity. Their form recalled the proven strength of the Austrian side.

Christian Zawieschitzky, only 19 years old, made his debut in the 33rd minute when he touched the first ball. He showed presence on high balls and defended a header from Muriqi with composure. The debut was judged by the coaches as successful.

Nikolas Veratschnig came on until the 79th minute, replacing Stefan Posch. He initially took a more defensive role, but was called into the press by forward Wimmer. Despite occasional uncertainty in positioning, he quickly found his line.

Experienced forces secure the win

David Affengruber started for the second time and scored with a header to make it 1-0. His defensive work was solid, he won the most duels and showed strength in the battle. The man Affengruber impressed with his aerial success rate. Kevin Danso, one of the main anchors, controlled the defence over long stretches.

In the closing stages there was a controversial incident when Affengruber collided with a Kosovo player's ball with his knee in the penalty area, provoking a penalty for the opponents. The penalty led to the final score of 3-1. Despite this mistake his overall performance remained strong.

Nicolas Seiwald again displayed his usual ball-winning rate after the World Cup and processed the balls significantly better. Xaver Schlager was the most noticeable man in midfield, initiating the 2-0 in the 46th minute with a solo run and a sensational pass to Wimmer. His drive and freshness shaped the game.

Outlook and significance

With the fifth home win this year, the Austrian team consolidates its path in the Nations League. The positive outlook that Lisa Leutner from the press provides gives hope for further successes. The combination of young talents and experienced players could determine the further course of Austrian football.
