Atletico target Grealish to fill Man City’s injury void

Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering a shock summer move for Manchester City star Jack Grealish as the Spanish side seek a player whose work rate matches Diego Simeone’s tactical demands. The Atleti hierarchy admire Grealish’s effort both in and out of possession, viewing him as a strong fit for their system.

Grealish has been left out of City’s pre‑season tour of Asia, posting on social media that he is still recovering from a long‑term injury. The forward’s absence highlights a gap in Manchester’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

The 30‑year‑old returned to the Etihad Stadium this summer after a loan spell at Premier League rivals Everton. His season with the Toffees was limited after a foot injury curtailed his contributions on the pitch.

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are also on Grealish’s radar, having already raided West Ham for Crysencio Summerville. Their interest adds another layer of competition for the winger’s signature.

Atletico’s scouting report stresses Grealish’s relentless work rate, a trait that Simeone values highly. The club believes his style would complement the disciplined, counter‑attacking approach favoured by the La Atletico coach.

Grealish clarified his Asia tour absence, stating: “Just to let you know I’m still recovering from an injury so I’m not training yet. Haven’t been ‘left out’ so stop talking poo poo thanks.”

New City boss Enzo Maresca, who coached Grealish as Pep Guardiola’s assistant in the 2022/23 treble‑winning season, reiterated his commitment to the player. Maresca said: “At the moment, he’s here. He’s a Man City player… I have a good relation with Jack… he has a big heart and he’s a very good guy. So this is the reason why. And then we see what happens.”

Grealish has made 157 appearances for Manchester City since his mega‑money switch from Aston Villa, scoring 17 goals while contributing to three Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph.
