Atletico Madrid's Simeone: We need Lille's striker

Diego Simeone, coach of Atletico Madrid, has said that the club urgently needs Jonathan David, the striker who shone at Lille, to counter the drop in performance shown in the recent spell at Juventus.

The Cholo's message

"We need the player who was at Lille," the Cholo explained, emphasizing that the new offensive reinforcement for the Colchoneros must restore the consistency that the Canadian had shown in France.

Lack of offensive alternatives

Currently, Julián Álvarez is the only reference striker available to Atletico, so the coach is looking to ease the burden on his shoulders by adding another quality centre‑forward.

During his spell at Lille, David recorded 109 goals in 232 appearances across all competitions, figures that have made him one of the most sought‑after centre‑forwards on the international market.

His move to Juventus, however, was marked by a decline in performances compared to the standards reached in France, causing his output to fall below expectations.

Simeone's goal is therefore to restore to David the lost scoring regularity, increasing offensive options and reducing the reliance on Álvarez.

The contrast between the brilliant French season and the difficult period in Italy highlights how crucial it is for the Colchoneros to regain the Lille form, a necessary step to strengthen the attack in the upcoming campaign.
