Atlético Madrid’s España‑based plan to sign Santiago Beltrán
Atlético Madrid are weighing a swap that could see Juan Musso move to River as part of the price for 21‑year‑old goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán, who is currently with the Argentina Selección for a friendly against Bolivia in Córdoba on Wednesday night, according to reports from Spain.
Olé reported that Beltrán relishes his role in the Argentina Selección, training in the squad’s kit as the team prepares for the Wednesday night clash in Córdoba. While he basks in international duty, Europa outlets continue to link his future with Atlético Madrid.
Clubs such as Juventus and Manchester City have monitored the 21‑year‑old, yet the Colchonero’s interest has intensified. Atlético hope to replace Slovenian Jan Oblak, whose contract expires on 30 June 2028 and who may depart in the mid‑year transfer window.
Atlético’s proposed swap
According to the Spanish portal El Desmarque, the Madrid side could involve Argentine international Juan Musso, 32, in the deal. Musso, also a member of the Argentina Selección, would be offered to River as part of the payment for Beltrán.
River, however, are working on extending Beltrán’s contract to December 2029. The club intends to raise his release clause from the current $25 million to €100 million and increase his salary.
The River project for 2027 envisions Beltrán as the first‑choice goalkeeper, with Ezequiel Centurión as the backup. Centurión has already renewed his deal, which runs until 31 December, under the same agent Gustavo Goñi who represents Beltrán.
Beltrán’s 2026 record
Since taking over after Franco Armani’s pre‑season injury, Beltrán has amassed 38 appearances this year. He has conceded 32 goals, kept 15 clean sheets and produced several decisive saves, including penalty stops that preserved points for River.
River have already changed two coaches during the calendar year, yet the defensive unit has shown marked improvement. The club’s recent surge in defensive solidity underscores the value they place on retaining Beltrán.
