Aston Villa stop Everton's home run as Sørensen celebrates at Goodison Park on Merseyside

Aston Villa ended Everton's five‑match home winning run at Goodison Park on Merseyside this afternoon, sealing a 3‑2 victory that leaves the Toffees in seventh place in the Barclays Women’s Super League while the Villans drop to eighth in the table.

Early dominance and opening goal

The Villans announced their intent within the first four minutes when Noelle Maritz found space, charged forward and slotted the ball past Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan. Brian Sørensen, back at his former club, watched his side take the lead and celebrate the early breakthrough.

Everton pressed for an equaliser and created a chance when Ornella Vignola struck, but her effort lacked power and the ball was swept up by Akane Okuma. The visitors held firm, keeping the score at 1‑0.

Amalie Vangsgaard then doubled Villa’s advantage just after the half‑hour mark. Chasity Grant supplied a through ball and Vangsgaard whipped it into the top corner, putting the visitors firmly in control.

Yuka Momiki delivered a dangerous free‑kick, but Aston Villa captain Anna Patten cleared it off the line. Holly McNamara’s attempt went wide and Aurora Galli’s effort sailed over, leaving the score unchanged.

Second‑half surge and final minutes

Early in the second half Vangsgaard extended the lead. Maritz sent a low delivery into the six‑yard box where the Dane was waiting and she prodded the ball into the net for her second of the match.

Grant fired into the side‑netting as Villa searched for a fourth goal, while Vangsgaard was denied a hat‑trick when Ruby Mace headed her effort away. Yuka Momiki unleashed a rocket of a shot, but Akane Okuma caught it comfortably, denying the visitor.

Holly McNamara capped her first Everton start with a goal, tucking the ball neatly past Okuma. In stoppage time Noémie Mouchon’s cross sneaked into the back of the net, setting up a tense final few minutes, but Everton could not find a third goal.

The result leaves Everton seventh and Aston Villa eighth in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
