AS Roma drops Belgian price hurdle, turns from Tresoldi to Castro

AS Roma have decided to abandon their pursuit of Nicolò Tresoldi after Club Brugge set a Belgian price that the Italian side deems excessive, prompting the club to look for a new striker to refresh its attacking options. The Romans need a forward who can immediately contribute, and they have turned their attention to Bologna’s 21‑year‑old Argentine striker Santiago Castro.

Club Brugge’s asking price for Tresoldi is reported to be between €35 million and €40 million, a figure that AS Roma consider too high for the Belgian top club’s valuation. Manà of Manà Sport Roma confirmed that the Belgian demand is the stumbling block in the negotiations.

Instead, Roma are prepared to meet a €30 million fee for Castro, with the possibility of up to €5 million in bonuses. The Italian club sees the Argentine forward as a realistic alternative that fits their budget and tactical plans.

Fabrizio Romano reported that talks over Castro are in an advanced stage and that the player has already agreed to join the Stadio Olimpico. He is expected to form a front line alongside Donyell Malen and other attackers.

Since joining Bologna in January 2024, Castro has made 79 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists, demonstrating his effectiveness in Serie A.

Meanwhile, clubs are also discussing a loan deal for Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk, who was previously linked with Ajax, while the high Belgian price remains a barrier that has already forced Roma to pivot away from Tresoldi.
