Arteta says no chance of United or Chelsea poaching Lewis‑Skelly

Mikel Arteta has ruled out any chance of Myles Lewis‑Skelly leaving Arsenal, confirming the 19‑year‑old will stay despite recent rumours linking him with Manchester United and Chelsea. The manager made the statement on 20 August 2026, emphasizing his confidence in the youngster's future at the club.

Why Arsenal want to keep him

Lewis‑Skelly, 19, showcased his potential by scoring against Como in a friendly last Wednesday. His celebration, a heart‑shaped gesture to the crowd, highlighted his enthusiasm and connection with supporters.

The confirmation was reported by ISAAN KHAN on 20 August 2026. Arteta reiterated his certainty, replying “100 per cent” when asked if the midfielder would remain after the transfer window.

Ahead of Arsenal's opening Premier League match against Coventry on Friday, Arteta also confirmed that Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice are fit to be involved. Both players featured as substitutes in the second half of the Gunners' 3‑0 Community Shield victory over Manchester City on Sunday.

The availability of Bruno Guimaraes remains uncertain after he left the recent match with an ice pack on his right thigh. Jurrien Timber has yet to resume training with the squad.

By retaining Lewis‑Skelly, Arsenal preserve a promising academy graduate for the upcoming season. Manchester United and Chelsea, meanwhile, lose a potential addition to their midfield options.
