Arteta praises Arsenal after tough Bayern duel and win over Everton

Midweek Arsenal played a tough Champions League match against Bayern Munich, which ended in a 2‑2 draw. Today the Premier League opponent Everton was on the agenda, and the Gunners secured a convincing 2‑0 win. The quick turnaround showed how the team recovered after three matches in less than six days.

Arteta pleased with result

Coach Mikel Arteta expressed his satisfaction with the outcome. He highlighted the physical strain of the past weeks.

“I am very pleased. We made five changes in this match. We have played three games in less than six days, so we knew it would be tough. Against Bayern Munich we played one of the most physical matches of the past four years. Because we had to play again on Saturday at 3:00 pm, we really needed those fresh legs. The players are in a good phase and need playing minutes. They have done everything excellently.”

Defender Gabriel Magalhães celebrated his two‑hundredth appearance in Arsenal’s shirt and opened the scoring. He praised a teammate as one of the best central defenders in the world.

“I think he is without any doubt one of the best central defenders in the world, given the impact he had in both penalty areas. His leadership, presence and what he adds to the rest of the lads is unique. We are very happy to have him with us.”

The British newspaper The Telegraph analysed the role of the central defenders in the match. They emphasized that the goals stemmed from set‑piece situations, a hallmark of Arteta’s playing style.

“The central defenders (Gabriel and Ezri Konsa, ed.) of Arsenal did not limit themselves in this duel to preventing goals in their own penalty area. The goals – a scrappy finish after a set‑piece and a header at the second post – recalled Arteta’s style of play last season. In the year Arsenal won the league title, corner kicks were a crucial weapon, but notably the team had not scored from a set‑piece this season up to this match.”

With the win Arsenal confirms that the pressure of an intense schedule is not a hindrance. The success strengthens the Gunners’ position in the Premier League and provides a positive boost for the upcoming European confrontations.
