Arsenal wants to keep longest-serving Premier League coach Arteta

Arsenal want to keep the longest‑serving Premier League manager Mikel Arteta longer, reports the BBC. His current contract expires at the end of this season, but the Gunners aim to retain the successful coach in London to ensure continuity after the busy transfer window.

Strategic importance of continuity

Now that the transfer window has closed, Arsenal has turned its attention to the manager, with the parties reportedly nearing an agreement. Arteta, who won the Premier League with Arsenal last season, is said to be very open to a longer stay at the Emirates Stadium.

A renewal would make him one of the best‑paid managers in the world, according to insiders following the negotiations.

Financial terms of the extension

Currently the Spanish man receives £15 million, roughly €17.5 million, including a bonus that is triggered upon qualification for the Champions League. The club wants to significantly upgrade his contract to keep him longer.

The increase would place Arteta in the elite of global managerial positions, although the exact figures have not yet been made public.

Having started in December 2019, Arteta is the longest‑serving manager in the Premier League, a status Arsenal want to retain amid competitive pressure.

In his seven years at the London club he has won three English Super Cups, one FA Cup and one league championship, including the first Premier League‑title since 2004.

This season the Gunners are top favorites, with a perfect record from the first three league duels, causing the club to place extra importance on continuity on the bench. A formal signing and board approval remain the final steps before Arteta can fully focus on the upcoming Champions League qualification.
