Arsenal spends €200 m without a striker, while the Ødegaard‑Havertz duo wins

Arsenal has spent more than two hundred million euros this summer without bringing in an attacking striker, but the team remains unbeaten. “We never give up,” says the club, while the scoring duo Ødegaard and Havertz have won the first three competitive matches.

Financial effort without a striker

Arsenal spent more than two hundred million euros on the transfer market this summer, but no attacking reinforcement arrived. The club had focused on Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, but the World Cup player ultimately chose Chelsea. That has so far proved to be no problem.

That Rogers, who scored just after a little more than a minute, hurt Arsenal. The name Morgan Rogers fell, and also Bradley Barcola and Vinícius Júnior came up. Arsenal wanted to sign Rogers in the last transfer window, but the player went to Chelsea.

Three minutes after kickoff, Julián Álvarez was clearly in view. After Rogers’ early goal, Arsenal maintained its flawless status. Kai Havertz (ex‑Chelsea) and Martin Ødegaard provided the next goals, while Viktor Gyökeres got a cameo appearance.

Scoring duo and team mentality

The scoring duo Ødegaard and Havertz delivered the win, and only Manchester City has yet to drop points. Ødegaard told the BBC: “Our mentality is that we keep fighting.” He was a pest for the defence of The Blues.

For Ødegaard it was his third goal in the first four official matches. Last season he scored only once in 36 games. Former international Ashley Young called it a pleasure to watch Ødegaard.

Top‑most level, says Havertz: “Martin is at his very best level. An incredible player, that we have seen over the past years.” He also praised Chelsea’s squad, but emphasized that Arsenal kept believing in itself.

It was only the third time in the club’s history that Arsenal won the first three matches of a season and conceded fewer than two goals. Mikel Arteta spoke with confidence about an even higher level than last season.

Arsenal also continues the Premier League on Saturday with a visit to Sunderland. Midweeks open the competitive phase with an away match against Napoli, which starts on Wednesday at 21:00 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
