Arsenal set €100 million bar for Calafiori as Madrid linger
Sources close to Arsenal say the club will only consider a bid above €100 million for Italy international Riccardo Calafiori, even as Real Madrid maintain their interest. The 24‑year‑old defender, who joined the Emirates from Bologna in 2024, now faces a stark contrast between a suitor’s ambition and his current club’s valuation.
Real Madrid’s lingering pursuit
Real Madrid have made informal contact with people close to Calafiori to gauge a possible deal, but no formal offer has emerged. The Spanish giants view the versatile defender as a perfect fit for their evolving defensive philosophy, praising his ability to operate centrally, at left‑back and even step into midfield.
Arsenal’s firm price and contract security
Arsenal consider Calafiori a central pillar of Mikel Arteta’s project and have signalled that any negotiation would require an extraordinary offer exceeding €100 million. His contract runs until June 2029, reinforcing the club’s bargaining position. Agents told CaughtOffside that Arsenal have no intention of selling him cheaply, despite the Spanish club’s interest.
Since arriving from Bologna, Calafiori has developed into one of Europe’s most adaptable defenders. Comfortable at both centre‑back and left‑back, his possession‑driven style and occasional midfield forays have made him especially valuable to Arteta, who described him as “a big personality and character, with specific skills which will make us stronger” on the club’s official website.
Calafiori’s market value has risen to around €65 million, reflecting his growing influence at the Emirates. He has also added goals to his game this season, further cementing his importance to Arsenal’s defensive set‑up.
While Real Madrid’s scouting continues, Arsenal remain in complete control of the situation. Unless a truly exceptional bid arrives, the interest appears more speculative than imminent, leaving Calafiori firmly embedded in Arteta’s plans.
