Arsenal's winter transfer: Why 26‑year‑old Julián Álvarez is in focus
Julián Álvarez, a 26‑year‑old striker of Atlético Madrid, could move to Arsenal in the upcoming winter transfer window. As his contract runs until June 2030 and the Spanish club did not consider a sale for around €100 million in the summer, a potential deal is likely to be very expensive.
Arsenal interest and financial hurdles
According to TEAMtalk, the London club is already preparing for the winter transfer window and sees the Argentinian as one of the most important targets to strengthen the attack. Arsenal wants to pursue the transfer of Julián Álvarez again, even though a sale was previously considered too expensive.
The 26‑year‑old Álvarez, who was previously linked mainly with a possible move to FC Barcelona, is now also said to be considering a transfer to London. This expands his options beyond the pure Barcelona plan.
Since his contract runs until June 2030, a sale would have to reach several hundred million euros, because Atlético did not consider a sale for around €100 million in the summer.
The start of the current season is not going optimally for the Argentinian. Due to health problems and irregular appearances, he is not getting the expected playing time, and his first league goal came only in the friendly match of the Argentinian national team against Burkina Faso.
In recent days Álvarez also ended the almost ten‑year partnership with his advisor Fernando Hidalgo. The talks about a new representative are currently being handled by his father Gustavo Álvarez, with an agency linked to Javier Pastore considered the favourite. The former advisor has ended the collaboration with Álvarez.
A possible move would give Arsenal a young, talented attacker, while Atlético would have to decide at a high price whether to terminate the long‑term contract.
