Arsenal's Tzolis faces two‑week lay‑off after hamstring setback
Arsenal winger Christos Tzolis was forced off after 18 minutes as Greece drew 2‑2 with the Netherlands in a Nations League match in Thessaloniki on Thursday night. The 24‑year‑old suffered a hamstring injury and will miss at least two weeks, reports in Greece say. A Photo from the game, credited to NurPhoto/Shutterstock, shows him limping off.
Hamstring injury assessment
Initial scans on Friday confirmed the hamstring problem, with sources close to the Greek national side estimating a recovery period of two to three weeks. Arsenal will conduct further medical tests to determine the exact extent of the injury before deciding on his rehabilitation programme.
Games at risk
If the recovery stretches to three weeks, Tzolis will be unavailable for Arsenal's Premier League clash with Leeds United on 10 October. He would also miss Champions League ties against Lille on 13 October and Bayern Munich on 21 October, as well as a league meeting with Nottingham Forest on 18 October. A possible return is slated for the home game against Everton on 24 October.
Tzolis has withdrawn from the Greece camp and is set to travel back to London on Saturday, ending his involvement in the Nations League weekend.
Greece's next fixture is against Germany on Sunday, a match Tzolis will miss as he recovers.
The Greek winger joined Arsenal in July for a £34 million fee from Club Brugge and has contributed two assists in seven appearances this season.
