Arsenal’s midfield overhaul: Guimaraes arrives as Rice welcomes him

Arsenal have completed the £75 million signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, securing him on a contract until 2030 with an optional extra year, and Declan Rice was among the first Gunners to send a publicly congratulatory text.

Arsenal identified a need to deepen their midfield engine as they chase European success, and the arrival of Guimaraes answers that demand. The club believes the Brazilian adds depth and quality to a squad already targeting continental trophies.

Mikel Arteta’s already formidable midfield gains a combative, creative edge, bolstering the Gunners’ core ahead of the new season. Arteta expects the new signing to integrate quickly and raise the team’s overall intensity.

Bruno revealed that Declan Rice was among the first Arsenal players to congratulate him after the move. He quoted Rice’s text: “Come here and please no more fights, now we’re friends.”

Guimaraes acknowledged previous clashes with Rice and Jorginho but said they are now water under the bridge. He added that he cannot wait to work alongside the England international in midfield.

He also disclosed that teammate Gabriel Magalhaes repeatedly urged him to leave St James’ Park for the Emirates. The Brazilian defender sent messages like “We’ll wait for you, when will you come?” showing his excitement.

Arsenal’s hierarchy said they are delighted to welcome Bruno Guimaraes, praising his mentality and quality. They noted his ability to lead, play as a defensive midfielder or box‑to‑box player, and his record of goals and assists each season.

Sporting director Andrea Berta highlighted that Guimaraes will help Arteta evolve the team’s playing style beyond a defensive focus. His arrival strengthens the heart of the squad, increases internal competition, and supports the Gunners’ aim to win major trophies.
