Arsenal’s Keown predicts Alex Scott’s value will soar after England debut
Arsenal have been linked with a strong interest in England midfielder Alex Scott, and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown says the Guernsey‑born 23‑year‑old’s valuation will surge after his full England debut at the weekend. Scott, who moved from Bristol City to Bournemouth in 2023, has quickly become one of the most sought‑after English midfielders.
Rise from the Cherries to the Three Lions
Since swapping Bristol City for Bournemouth, the Cherries’ midfielder has gone from strength to strength, earning a call‑up for the Three Lions last month. He made his Nations League debut as a second‑half substitute in England’s victory over the Czech Republic in Prague, then started in the 7‑0 thrashing of Croatia, impressing alongside Elliot Anderson in Thomas Tuchel’s midfield.
Keown praised the performance, telling: “It was one of the finest games I’ve seen him play. He kept it simple, made really good decisions on the ball and didn’t try to force a Steven Gerrard‑style pass.”
Injury setback and transfer speculation
Bad news followed the win: Scott suffered a quadriceps injury that could keep him out for up to eight weeks. Bournemouth have expressed anger and frustration at England’s handling of the situation, noting that the midfielder felt discomfort in his thigh before the Croatia match.

Keown acknowledged the dilemma, saying: “It’s always very difficult. He hadn’t started a game for England before and it was an amazing opportunity. The injury may have helped him in the short term, but it jeopardises his club situation.”
Despite the setback, Keown believes the England display will lift Scott’s asking price. He added: “When he plays for England, doesn’t that put the transfer fee up? Chelsea are reportedly in pole position, with Arsenal and Liverpool also showing strong interest.”
Keown also reflected on the competition within Tuchel’s squad, noting that the battle for midfield minutes will raise the level of players such as Declan Rice, Anderson and Scott. “It means other players can go in and you can rely on their performance,” he explained.

As the summer World Cup looms, Scott missed Thomas Tuchel’s squad, a disappointment for the Bournemouth star. Yet his rapid rise, England caps and the interest from top clubs suggest his next move could be decisive for both his career and Arsenal’s midfield ambitions.
