Arsenal's hunt for the Como star prompts Real Madrid to weigh in

The 22‑year‑old Nico Paz, one of Europe’s most coveted midfielders, is set to move to FC Arsenal soon; however, the deal cannot go through without Real Madrid’s oversight.

Rise of the Como Star

At Fàbregas’s club Como, the 22‑year‑old Nico Paz flourished over the past two years and became one of Europe’s most sought‑after midfielders. In recent seasons he scored 20 goals and provided 19 assists in 79 appearances. The young Argentine is regarded as one of the continent’s hottest talents.

Last summer’s transfer window attracted several suitors, but ultimately he stayed at Como. So far, transfers have not materialised because the Italian club has not been willing to let him go. In Italy, however, he may not remain for much longer.

Real Madrid’s Buy‑Back Clause

According to El Desmarque, Real Madrid has a say in the matter, because after the renewed sale of Paz last summer the Royals secured a buy‑back clause worth €80 million for 2027. This option gives Real Madrid the ability to bring the player back in the summer of 2027.

FC Arsenal wants to sign him soon, and a move could happen as early as January. However, the English champions must also keep Real Madrid in mind, as the Spanish club’s oversight of the deal is required.

For Arsenal, the situation is far from straightforward. It is uncertain whether Como will be willing to part with its best midfielder during the season. It is conceivable that the Italian club could demand the €80 million, which would anyway be secured by the buy‑back clause a half‑year later.

If a winter transfer does not materialise, Real Madrid could step in in the summer of 2027 and sell the midfielder directly for a higher sum. This would allow the Royals and Como to walk away with a financial profit.
