Arsenal’s comeback sparks perfect start as Deeney hails Raya
Arsenal secured a 2‑1 victory over Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday, maintaining their flawless start to the Premier League’ campaign while Mikel Arteta praised his side’s resilience after falling behind to Morgan Rogers’ early strike. The Germans Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard turned the tide with second‑half goals, sealing the win.
First‑half pressure and early setback
Chelsea took the initiative when Morgan Rogers’ early opener put the visitors 1‑0 down, exposing a momentary lapse in Arsenal’s defence. The London side’s dazzling front‑three were largely quiet for the remainder of the half.
Arsenal’s summer signing Ezri Konsa, alongside Gabriel, helped stabilise the back line, limiting Chelsea’s chances as the first half drew to a close.
Second‑half surge and decisive saves
Kai Havertz restored parity midway through the second half, and Martin Odegaard completed the comeback with a fine finish later on. Both goals underscored Arsenal’s attacking depth.
Goalkeeper David Raya then produced a brilliant late‑stage save to deny Estevao an equaliser, prompting former striker Troy Deeney to declare, “Huge saves, again. It’s why he’s the best goalkeeper in the league.”
Deeney also lauded Konsa, saying, “Solid performance. He comes in again and just makes that massive tackle on Morgan Rogers. I think he slots into what is an already incredible Arsenal team.”
After the final whistle, Mikel Arteta described the performance as “incredible”, adding, “It wasn’t the right start but we certainly reacted in an amazing way. I enjoyed the way we competed; we took risks, it was a joy to watch.”
The win means only Arsenal and Manchester City boast a perfect record after three games, while Chelsea taste defeat for the first time this season. Get ahead of the start of the season as Arsenal now turn their focus to a Champions League tie against Napoli.
