Arsenal’s £34m Tzolis signing fuels title push as fans marvel

Arsenal have completed the signing of Greece international Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for a reported fee of around £34 million during the summer transfer window. The deal, overseen by sporting director Andrea Berta, marks the Gunners’ biggest summer investment and aims to fill the void left by Leandro Trossard.

Why Arsenal targeted Tzolis

Andrea Berta identified Tzolis as a direct replacement for the departing Belgian winger Leandro Trossard, who moved to Turkish side Besiktas. The Gunners also needed to compensate for Gabriel Martinelli’s exit to Al‑Hilal, making the Greek forward a priority for maintaining attacking depth.

Club Brugge president Bart Verhaeghe confirmed that Arsenal’s representatives approached him at the Champions League draw, expressing admiration for the Belgian club’s development work. He said the Arsenal chiefs praised the quality of the talent produced by Club Brugge.

Verhaeghe told Het Belang van Limburg: “At the Champions League draw, I saw people from Arsenal and they showed a tremendous amount of respect. ‘What a player you’ve delivered’, they told me. They said he has an excellent attitude, is the best in the physical tests and is a great guy, too.”

In a later interview with, he added: “Arsenal said ‘what a player’ when they approached me after the draw. Christos had come out on top in all the tests. That’s what we do here: deliver a ready‑made product… Today, we’re selling players to Arsenal and Inter Milan, two teams that have reached the Champions League final in the last two years. And at the same time, we’re recruiting directly from the Premier League, from a club like West Ham. Ten years ago, that was unthinkable.”

Arsenal defender Ben White praised the newcomer in August, saying: “Christos has been amazing. He came in, did all the testing, and beat everyone. So he is fitting in really well and everyone is really happy for him to be here.”

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand called the signing one of the best of the window, stating on his YouTube channel: “For the price you got him for, £35 million, he is a jinky little winger with great vision, making good decisions in the final third. Great bit of business by Arsenal’s recruitment team.”

Impact on Arsenal and Club Brugge

Defending champions Arsenal have won all three of their opening Premier League fixtures with Tzolis in the starting XI, and the Gunners have expressed satisfaction with his contribution. The Greek winger’s performances help the team maintain momentum as they chase success across all competitions. For Arsenal, Tzolis provides the attacking depth needed after the departures of Trossard and Martinelli, while Club Brugge benefit from a lucrative transfer that underscores their reputation for developing talent for top clubs.
