Arsenal’s £20 million‑a‑season deal could reshape Arteta’s wage race

Arsenal’s £20 million‑a‑season deal could reshape Arteta’s wage race

Arsenal confirmed on October 7 that manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new four‑year contract running until June 2030, with a reported salary of more than £20 million per season. The deal, confirmed by the club, makes him the division’s best‑paid manager according to multiple reports.

The Irish Times reported the package exceeds £20 million each season, while said the figure now tops all Premier League managers’ earnings. Arsenal also announced that the contracts of Arteta’s coaching staff have been extended to match the new deal’s length. Arsenal chose not to reveal the exact financial details publicly.

Deal details and duration

The agreement runs until June 2030, extending Arteta’s spell that began in December 2019. Should he fulfil the full term, he will have overseen the club for more than a decade. The club presented the news on October 7, with a further statement released on October 8.

Italian reports state the four‑year deal pays Arteta roughly €29.5 million a year, up from €18.4 million previously. That sum eclipses the estimated €24.4 million per season earned by Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola. The increase positions Arteta among the world’s highest‑paid coaches.

Achievements and future outlook

Arteta guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in over two decades in the 2025/26 season, ending a run of three consecutive runner‑up finishes. He also lifted the FA Cup in 2019/20 and steered the side to a Champions League final last season, where they were defeated by Paris Saint‑Germain on penalties. The triumph ended a sequence of three consecutive second‑place finishes, underscoring the progress under Arteta.

Chief executive Richard Garlick said at Leaders Week London, “We want to create a winning era together with Mikel.” He added that Arteta is now the only current Premier League manager who has already won the league. Garlick also noted, “I look at the other teams in the Premier League and Mikel is now the only current manager that has won the Premier League.”

Arteta responded, “We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

The 44‑year‑old has been in charge since December 2019, turning the Gunners into a perennial contender. His extended deal secures continuity as Arsenal look to build on the recent triumphs. The four‑year contract runs to June 2030, providing long‑term security for both parties.
