Arsenal regains form and takes sole lead in the Premier League

At the Estádio da Luz, Arsenal returned to last season's rhythm by beating Sunderland 2-0, securing a fourth consecutive win in the Premier League and isolating itself at the top with 12 points, while rival Manchester City has not yet played.

Match details

David Rayà was the first protagonist, excellently saving a penalty taken by Enzo Le Fée in the 56th minute. The defense kept Arsenal silent and gave confidence to the back line.

From midfield, Bruno Guimarães got into action and found the back of the net in the 58th minute, opening the scoring. The goal gave Mikel Arteta's side control of the game.

The match became even more tense when Reinildo Mandava received a second yellow card and was sent off in the final minutes, leaving Sunderland with ten men. The decision further reduced the visiting club's options for a comeback.

Bukayo Saka, who had already stood out throughout the season, converted the 11‑metre penalty in added time at 90+7, sealing the definitive 2‑0. With the goal, Arsenal secured the win without conceding.

With the two points, Arsenal reached 12 points, leading the Premier League while Manchester City has not yet played. Sunderland remains on four points, occupying the 14th position.

On the same day, other matches of the round ended in draws: Aston Villa lost 1‑2 to Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth drew 2‑2 with Brentford, and Liverpool were goalless against Fulham.

David Raya received a rating of eight out of ten for his performance, standing out among the round's goalkeepers. Bruno Guimarães was also rated eight, recognized for the decisive goal. Ray, the broadcast analyst, praised the team's defensive solidity.
