Arsenal push to lock down Arteta as contract talks near finish
Arsenal are desperate to lock down manager Mikel Arteta after his transformative work since 2019, with the Gunners having won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final last season. Journalist Fabrizio Romano says talks on a new contract are now at the final stages.
If Arteta were to depart, Arsenal would lose the architect of their recent renaissance. Since taking over in 2019, he has transformed the side at the Emirates Stadium, turning a squad that struggled into a world‑class group that looks almost unrecognisable from his first season.
Arteta’s impact on the squad
Arteta guided Arsenal to the Premier League title and to the Champions League final last season, delivering silverware and continental pedigree. The start to the new campaign has been equally impressive, with the Gunners winning all four of their opening league games while conceding just one goal. A 1‑0 victory over Napoli in their first Champions League match and fresh contracts for William Saliba and Bukayo Saka underline the stability he has created.
Supporters have praised the atmosphere at the Emirates, describing it as fantastic as the team continues to win every game, a sentiment that will be music to fans’ ears if the manager stays.
Contract talks reach final stage
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on his YouTube channel that Arsenal are advancing in negotiations for a new Arteta contract. He said the discussions are a top priority and that contacts began in March and April, now involving Arteta’s lawyers and moving into the final stages. The club is keen to tie the manager down for as long as possible.
“Arsenal keep advancing in conversations in negotiations for Mikel Arteta new contract. It’s a top priority for Arsenal,” Romano said. “The discussions are taking place, are going very well… I expect Mikel Arteta definitely to sign a new contract at Arsenal.”
If the deal is sealed, Arsenal will enter the season with a secured manager and a squad already reinforced by new deals for Saliba and Saka, putting them in a strong position to dominate for years.
