The defender scored the second goal in the Phase MD3 of the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 against Villarreal CF, held at Anfield, Liverpool, United Kingdom, on 20 OCTOBER. His celebration with the fans highlighted his integration into Liverpool's style of play in the Premier.
After the match, Araujo was asked about his future and replied that “it’s too early to talk about it”. He thanked the support received, noting that the decision to stay at Liverpool “does not depend solely on me”.
The media have indicated that the club could trigger a purchase clause, although no definitive decision has been made yet. The speculation intensifies as the team continues competing in the UEFA Champions League.
The Uruguayan recalled his difficult season at Barcelona, where he took a break for mental health. “Sometimes you keep everything inside and try to be strong, but you have to talk and be honest”, he said.
“Taking that break was the best decision”, he affirmed, adding that he now feels happy and is enjoying football again. Araujo hopes to continue impressing throughout the campaign and make clear his value to Liverpool.
