Another setback as Kompany omits Musiala from the national team
Jamal Musiala, the 23‑year‑old attacking midfielder of FC Bayern, has missed all four Nations League matches after a muscle tear in his right thigh and is unavailable to the club for now, while coach Vincent Kompany gives him moral support. The Belgian former captain emphasized that setbacks are part of his own career.
Nominated and injured again
Musiala missed the start of the season due to neurological problems, but recovered in time before the long international break and was nominated for the German national team by the new head coach Jürgen Klopp. This made his comeback seem already within reach.
Before the first Nations League match in the Netherlands, Musiala suffered a muscle fiber tear in his right thigh while warming up, causing him to miss all four international games. The 23‑year‑old will therefore also be unavailable for the upcoming Bundesliga matches.
Kompany supports Musiala
FC Bayern announced on Thursday that Musiala is making progress on his way back and is already taking part in running sessions and coordination exercises with fitness coach Simon Martinello before the team training. This signals that the club wants to field the player again soon.
Vincent Kompany explained at the Friday press conference that he can identify with Musiala's story of setbacks, as he has also experienced many similar phases in his own career. Coming back, he said, is a strength he wants to pass on to Musiala.
Vincent Kompany remains vague about Harry Kane's future at Bayern
He added that he hopes Musiala will find joy in playing football again in the coming years and emphasized that a strong comeback will accompany the player for a lifetime, while the whole team celebrates each of his goals. Kompany is convinced that Musiala will continue to score the goal.
For FC Bayern's away match at FC Augsburg on Saturday at 15:30, Musiala is logically not an option, while according to Kompany all other national players have returned fit after their international trips. This keeps the team focused on the upcoming away fixtures.
Only three days after the friendly at the Fugger towns, the Bayern travel to Norway to face Viking Stavanger, before the following Saturday's top‑of‑the‑table clash against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, with the aim of reclaiming the league lead. The club hopes to get back to the top of the table after the setback.
In the Bundesliga, the Munich side will initially aim to regain the league lead. For Jamal Musiala, a setback now adds to the others.
