Ankle injury may sideline Mudryk for up to eight weeks
In a bright Tottenham training session on the 7th of the month, Mykhailo Mudryk limped off, his ankle strapped in a protective boot, as teammates watched anxiously. The 25‑year‑old Ukrainian forward, who had just returned to action after a four‑year doping ban, appeared in visible pain, prompting concerns he could miss the next two months of the Premier League campaign.
Doping ban and appeal
In December 2024 Mudryk failed a routine urine test that detected a low concentration of the prohibited substance Meldonium, resulting in a four‑year suspension from competitive football. He immediately appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The appeal succeeded when, in July of this year, the World Anti‑Doping Agency gave its consent and the Football Association granted Mudryk an instant reinstatement, allowing him to train and play again.
Loan move and injury setback
After his reinstatement, Mudryk featured for Chelsea in pre‑season, his first appearance in 615 days, before completing a deadline‑day loan to Tottenham Hotspur for £75 million with an option to buy, reuniting with former Shakhtar Donetsk coach Robert de Zerbi.
He made his Premier League debut for Tottenham on the 5th of the month, coming on in the 74th minute of the 0‑0 draw with Nottingham Forest, marking his first official match since November 2024.
During a training session on the 7th, Mudryk suffered an ankle injury; he now wears a protective boot and is expected to be sidelined for roughly six to eight weeks, overlapping a pause in Ukraine’s international fixtures.
Medical staff anticipate a return in mid‑October, a timeline that will test Tottenham’s attacking depth and leave the Ukraine national team without one of its key forwards for upcoming qualifiers.
