Anguissa’s fresh muscle strain clouds Napoli’s Serie A revival

Napoli’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa suffered a fresh muscular strain after being introduced in the 90th minute of the club’s 1-1 Serie A draw with Fiorentina on Sunday, a setback that further clouds his fitness outlook ahead of upcoming league and Champions League fixtures.

He replaced Stanislav Lobotka just as the match was ending, but the brief appearance proved enough for the new issue to emerge. Massimiliano Allegri confirmed the problem during his post‑match press conference.

Injury adds to Napoli’s woes

Anguissa had already missed Napoli’s previous Serie A clash with Bologna and the side’s opening Champions League tie against Arsenal earlier this month due to an adductor problem. He returned to training in time for the Bologna game, yet was only deemed fit to sit among the substitutes.

“I wanted to bring Anguissa on, but I’m afraid he’s got a muscular strain again,” Allegri said.

A September 05 encounter at Milan’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Italy saw Internazionale’s Curtis Jones press the Cameroon international, highlighting his involvement despite limited minutes.

The draw lifted Napoli to ninth place in the Serie A table, marking the club’s poorest start in eight years after away defeats to Como and reigning champions Inter.

With Anguissa’s status now uncertain, Napoli will have to manage their midfield options as they chase points in the domestic league and prepare for their next Champions League assignment.
