Angry' Haaland teases Ayyoub Bouaddi after City’s win at Porto Dragao
Angry' Erling Haaland and Ayyoub Bouaddi helped Man City secure a convincing start to their Champions League campaign on 8 September, as the English giants triumphed in a dominant display at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao, signalling the new‑look side’s intent under Enzo Maresca.
Haaland’s second‑half brace
Haaland delivered a second‑half brace to seal a 2‑0 victory. The Norwegian striker found the net twice, giving City a comfortable lead. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award. The win marked a positive result for the new‑look side after a busy summer.
Bouaddi, the 18‑year‑old Moroccan international, made his first start since joining from Lille for £85.7million. He impressed throughout the game, contributing to the midfield balance. The fee highlights the club’s investment in young talent. His display earned praise from teammates and the coaching staff.
When Prime Video asked Haaland for his thoughts, the striker praised his new colleague. “I think he did a really, really good game,” he said, adding that chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak had been told of Bouaddi’s training progress. Haaland called the teenager a “gem” and suggested he could have been introduced earlier in the second half.
Maresca and Haaland set future targets
Haaland joked that Bouaddi should have passed him the ball in the second half, then stressed the need to learn and win. “Enzo has to demand a lot from us, and we have to demand a lot from each other,” he said. He praised the atmosphere at the Estadio do Dragao as “unreal at times”. Maresca, who has won four of his first five games, echoed the sentiment, saying the team must continue to improve.
Maresca was full of admiration for the 18‑year‑old, declaring “Bouaddi was very good”. He noted the youngster remained calm after losing two balls against Coventry and never panicked. Maresca said this composure justified the £85.7million investment.
City travel to Old Trafford on Sunday for the first Manchester derby of the season against Manchester United.
