Ángel Alarcón drives Utrecht's comeback against Twente

Ángel Alarcón, the 22‑year‑old winger trained at La Masía, scored two goals to see FC Utrecht beat Twente 2‑1 and, at the same time, the Dutch club exercised the purchase option on 50 % of his rights for two million euros, signing the player until June 2029.

Comeback against Twente

The match, played in the Eredivisie, saw Twente take the lead with a goal from Daouda Weidmann in the 28th minute, threatening to snatch the second place from Utrecht away from Míchel's Ajax. Alarcón erased that advantage by scoring the equaliser in the 47th minute after a shot from Arthur Zagré.

Thirty‑six minutes later, the young Catalan completed his brace with a curling strike from the left corner of the box, beating the defender who was covering him and slipping in alongside the far post. The goal was described as a “golazo” that sealed the comeback.

This victory represents the third win in Utrecht's last four matches, easing a difficult start to the season. Alarcón had found the net the previous match against Willem II, sealing the score in the 92nd minute of a 3‑1.

Purchase and contract of the youngster

FC Utrecht had taken Alarcón on loan from Porto last season, after his spell at Barcelona. The standout performance forced the club to trigger the purchase clause on half of his rights, paying two million euros.

The contract, running until June 2029, splits the remaining rights between Porto and Barcelona, each holding 25 %. José Luis Artús, Utrecht journalist, noted that the deal constitutes an “interesting pinch” for the blaugrana club in case of a future sale.
