Andoni Iraola warns Liverpool’s thin squad ahead of September deadline

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has admitted the Reds’ squad remains “still quite thin” and confirmed the club will move for new signings before the summer transfer window shuts on 1 September, as departures of Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konaté and Curtis Jones leave key gaps.

The exits of Salah, Konaté and Jones, combined with a long‑term injury to Hugo Ekitike, have left Liverpool light in several crucial areas as the 2026/27 season begins.

Only winger Victor Munoz and defender Ronaldo Araujo have arrived this summer, while Jeremy Jacquet completed a £55 million deal agreed in February.

“We will definitely sign some players. Some deals you have to wait until the end,” Iraola told . “But the end is the important picture, the one we will have on September 1, because it is true that we are still quite thin,” he added.

Potential targets and valuations

The Reds have shown particular interest on the wings, with Iraola hinting at a possible move for PSG winger Bradley Barcola. Paris Saint‑Germain are reportedly demanding £145 million for the Frenchman.

Liverpool also submitted a £50 million bid for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, which was turned down, leaving the Gambia international’s future uncertain.

Season opener and remaining hurdles

The campaign kicks off away to Newcastle on Sunday, 23 August, at St James’ Park, giving the new manager a chance to assess the squad’s depth early.

The Independent, covering topics from reproductive rights to Tech and climate change, notes that its journalists also investigate Elon Musk’s pro‑Trump PAC and produce documentaries such as “The A Word”, highlighting American women’s struggles. At a critical moment in US history, the outlet stresses the need for clear facts.
