Anderlecht spends €15 million on new core to chase Europa League

Sporting director Antoine Sibierski has committed more than €15 million to Anderlecht’s new core, aiming to secure a place in the Europa League rather than the Conference League and to rebuild the squad under Rebuild Mode, 5.0 on Neerpede.

Rebuild Mode and Neerpede focus

Anderlecht is operating in a transition phase described as Rebuild Mode, 5.0 on Neerpede. The club’s strategy emphasizes a rapid overhaul of the squad while remaining based at the historic Neerpede ground. Het approach reflects a commitment to modernising the team’s core.

New signings and financial outlay

Sporting director Antoine Sibierski has already secured five newcomers: Marten Winkler (23), Lukas Ambros (22), Oliver Antman (24), Giulian Biancone (26) and Léo Pétrot (29). A sixth striker, Tawfik Bentayeb (24), is poised to join at Neerpede, potentially raising the total spend toward €20 million. Only Club Brugge and Racing Genk have invested more in their core this summer.

Europa League versus Conference League

Anderlecht’s ambition is to qualify for the Europa League, which offers a start budget of €4.31 million compared with €3.17 million for the Conference League. A successful Europa League campaign could generate €15‑20 million, whereas a modest Conference League group stage yields €5‑7 million. The club’s leadership stresses that “Anderlecht remains a big name” and that three stars on the emblem reflect its European heritage.

DomsClubwatcher reported for HLN20 that Anderlecht’s chairman Michael Verschueren highlighted the club’s 54‑year uninterrupted European record and the worldwide reputation of its youth academy. He told in his first major interview as chairman that the team must aim for the highest European stage.

Trainer Vitor Bruno insists on an offensive, high‑intensity style, saying “We do not want to limit ourselves; we always aim for the highest.” The team suffered its first defeat under Bruno at SK Beveren, prompting fans to anticipate a reaction in the upcoming clash with Kairat Almaty.

Anderlecht hopes to open the gate at Lotto Park next week against Kairat Almaty, ranked 184 in the UEFA club ranking, while Anderlecht sits at 68, 116 places higher. The Belgian summer transfer window remains open until 3 September, giving the club time to finalise its squad ahead of the Europa League campaign.
