Anderlecht banned from taking away fans to Union’s Joseph Marienstadion next season

🇧🇪

Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht will not be permitted to bring away supporters to matches at Union Saint-Gilloise’s Joseph Marienstadion during the 2026/27 season. The decision follows incidents surrounding the Belgian Cup final on 14 May at the King Baudouin Stadium, where Anderlecht lost 3-1 to Union after extra time.

The Royal Belgian Football Association (URBSFA/KBVB) confirmed the sanction on Wednesday. Union Saint-Gilloise had previously raised concerns about safety and crowd control at their stadium following the heated derby atmosphere.

Club officials from Anderlecht expressed disappointment with the ruling, stating that they had already implemented additional measures to prevent further incidents. A spokesperson said the club would work closely with authorities to ensure safe attendance for all supporters.

Union Saint-Gilloise welcomed the decision, calling it a necessary step to protect players, staff, and fans. Club president Philippe Housiaux emphasised that the safety of everyone at Joseph Marienstadion remains the top priority.

The sanction applies specifically to away-section trips to Union’s stadium and does not affect home fixtures at Anderlecht’s Lotto Park. Both clubs are expected to issue further statements in the coming days regarding the implementation of the measure.

The Belgian Cup final on 14 May was marred by crowd disturbances, leading to heightened scrutiny of supporter behaviour ahead of the 2026/27 season.
