Alpha’s debut dazzles Milan, but Cissè’s spot is already contested

AC Milan opened their Serie A campaign at Torino with a stunning debut from 19‑year‑old Alphadjo Cissè, nicknamed Alpha, who netted a ‘goal of his life’ – a composed stop and flying right‑foot strike – as the Rossoneri secured a victory.

Goal and impact

The goal was executed without hesitation, a stop followed by a right‑footed volley that seemed to decide a Serie A match despite Cissè’s young age. Milan’s win marked their first Serie A triumph of the season at Torino, and the match photograph features Alpha, who was signed in February, briefly loaned to Catanzaro and then taken on a tour for experience. The strike was hailed as “in grande stile,” underscoring the dramatic entrance of the teenager into top‑flight football.

Cissè played a measured first half, appearing subdued, before altering the contest in the second half with a soft right‑foot finish after receiving an assist from Rabiot. After scoring, he was substituted and took a seat on the bench with a serene expression and no visible celebration. He nearly added a second goal 32 minutes later, heading a Chukwueze cross toward the far post, while an earlier cross was deflected by Vlasic’s arm, prompting a denied penalty claim by Zufferli.

In a conference, Amorim declared “Adoro Cissè,” expressing admiration while warning that the youngster might “mount his head” if praised excessively. Ciss, often called Alpha, has already become a talking point in Milan circles.

Transfer saga and future competition

The winter transfer window closed seven months ago when PSV Eindhoven nearly secured Cissè from Catanzaro, even arranging a flight for medical examinations in the Netherlands. Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada intervened, directing the player to Milan, and Il Milan completed his signing within 24 hours. Catanzaro retained him for the return leg of the season, but a ruptured right‑thigh adductor tendon sidelined him for the latter half of the previous campaign, from which he fully recovered.

Cissè’s emergence as a starter has sparked a battle for his position, with Pulisic, Diego Moreira and possibly Leao expected to challenge for the role. The club’s hierarchy acknowledges that his place “must be taken away,” indicating intense internal competition.

A left‑sided attacking midfielder who is right‑footed, Cissè combines power, speed and technique, and he was born in Treviso to Guinean parents, making him eligible for Italy. Former Verona Primavera coach Paolo Sammarco noted that Cissè plays “in Serie A like on the playground with friends,” displaying maturity beyond his years despite being three years younger than his peers. During his spell at Catanzaro, the offensive midfielder recorded 16 league goals, highlighting his scoring ability. Off the pitch, Sammarco described him as shy, speaking little, constantly craving the ball, and recalled a missed penalty against Genoa followed by a successful one against Inter the following week.

Italy now seeks to understand who Alphadjo Cissè is, following his breakthrough performance.
