Alisson blocks Real Madrid’s pursuit of Mamardashvili
Giorgi Mamardashvili finds his Liverpool career stalled, having featured only in a Carabao Cup tie, while Real Madrid’s interest is thwarted by Alisson’s entrenched position between the posts. The 26‑year‑old Georgian goalkeeper, who signed a contract until 2031, has yet to make a Premier League appearance, and his limited minutes have left him on the periphery of the Anfield squad.
Scarce minutes at Liverpool
His sole official appearance this season came on 15 September in the Carabao Cup against Tottenham, a match Liverpool won 3‑1. He has not featured in the Premier League, where Andoni Iraola has named Alisson as the first‑choice goalkeeper. Iraola publicly defended his confidence in the Georgian despite the lack of game time.
Mamardashvili knows LaLiga from his seasons at Valencia, and he spent the previous year as a backup at Liverpool after arriving from England without minutes. He earns around £4.4 million per season and is valued at roughly €30 million, reflecting his potential despite the current scarcity of play.
Alisson’s grip and Real Madrid interest
Real Madrid have placed the Georgian on their agenda for the upcoming market, while Juventus and Inter also monitored his situation as alternatives to Alisson. The Brazilian keeper, now 34, is contracted until June 2027 and has not agreed a new extension, remaining a locker‑room reference and vice‑captain under Iraola.
If the distribution of minutes does not improve in the coming months, a loan or permanent transfer would provide Mamardashvili the continuity he lacks, without waiting for a replacement that may never arrive. His contract runs to 2031, offering clubs a long‑term option should they decide to act.
Should Alisson renew and retain his starting role, Mamardashvili will likely continue listening to Real Madrid and other suitors over the summer. Conversely, if the Brazilian departs in 2027, the Georgian could finally claim the Premier League goalkeeper spot for which he was signed.
