Alex Scott I’ve seen Harry Kane’s rise and it dazzles England

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, 23, earned his first England start as Thomas Tuchel’s side thrashed Croatia 7‑0 in the Nations League, with Harry Kane netting a brace and providing the assist for Bukayo Saka’s second goal, confirming the Three Lions’ dominant display.

From childhood idol to England teammate

Scott recalled that he had watched Kane since he was a little boy, describing the striker as “unbelievable” and “ridiculous up close”. He told ITV, “I knew he was ridiculous. I’ve been watching him since I was a little boy, so I knew his level but up close you can really see his level.” He added that such talent justifies the Ballon d’Or chatter surrounding Kane, Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka.

The 7‑0 victory marked England’s most emphatic win in the Nations League, with the side delivering a clinical performance against a dismal Croatian team. Thomas Tuchel’s tactical setup allowed the Three Lions to dominate possession and press high throughout the match. The result leaves England in a strong position in their group.

Kane’s double and assist fuel England’s dominance

Harry Kane opened the scoring in the eighth minute before adding a second later in the first half. He also set up Bukayo Saka for the Englishman’s second goal, highlighting his dual threat as scorer and creator. Kane’s contribution capped a night where the England attack seemed unstoppable.

Scott shared the pitch with 41‑year‑old veteran Luka Modrić, a 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, describing the experience as surreal. He praised the Bayern Munich marksman, saying playing alongside him was a great honour. The midfielder also noted the collective intensity of the England side, especially the movement of Elliot Anderson.

Harry Kane returned the compliments, lauding Scott and Anderson for their relentless intensity even when the ball was out of sight. He said, “The bottom line is if we lose the ball, we’re all smart enough and good enough to cover in midfield or defence. Alex and Elliot with their movement were outstanding.”

England’s final match of the international break will be at home to the Czech Republic on 6 October, a fixture that could cement their lead in the Nations League group. The squad will look to maintain the momentum generated by the Croatia thrashing.
