Alex Grimm presents Champions League highlights in October

The roughly three‑week club break can be somewhat alleviated thanks to Klopp's debut as national team coach, as the photo by Alex Grimm shows; nevertheless most fans long for the usual season routine, because October promises numerous highlights in the Bundesliga, 2nd League and the Champions League up to mid‑November.

The German top tier kicks off again on 9 October after the XXL break. 1 FC Köln hosts the still winless arch‑rival Borussia Mönchengladbach. At the same time, the second league begins with its own fixtures, further tightening the calendar package.

Rhine derby and new coach

On the Cologne side, Alexander Blessin is the new head coach on the touchline. His debut coincides with the first Rhine derby after the break. The opponent remains the inexperienced but ambitious Foals club.

International top duels

From a European perspective, three matches stand out: Atletico Madrid versus Man United, Galatasaray versus Barcelona and Man City versus Paris Saint‑Germain. All games take place at 21:00. They promise high‑profile action for Champions League fans.

The third matchday adds extra drama for the Bundesliga. Stuttgart hosts Atletico Madrid, while RB Leipzig travels to Real in Madrid. Bayern Munich hosts Arsenal at home, and at the same time PSG plays against Barcelona.

Further Bundesliga highlights

On the fourth matchday Bayern travels to Atletico Madrid, VfB must hold out against Galatasaray, and Leipzig hosts Man City. RB Leipzig also has the toughest assignment on paper, the home game against Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on the second matchday.

Amid the big duels, Eintracht Frankfurt contests the so‑called small Rhine derby against Bayer Leverkusen. This match rounds off the offering of exciting fixtures before the next break.

Until the next international break in mid‑November, the football calendar remains jam‑packed. Fans can therefore look forward to a continuous highlight marathon that includes both national and international top‑class action.
