Alberto Cavasin, 70, heads Veneto women's side for Sardinia Trophy

Alberto Cavasin, 70, has accepted the FIGC of Veneto's proposal to become the coach of the Region's women's team, which will take part in the Regions Trophy in Sardinia. The decision was announced by La Nuova Venezia, which recalls his previous commitment in Barisardo in Promotion.

The context of the new appointment

The Trophy will take place in Sardinia, where Cavasin has already coached, demonstrating familiarity with the area. The regional women's representative team, in fact, will have the opportunity to face the best teams from the other Italian regions.

Cavasin said that it was Gianni Bortoletto, his long‑time collaborator, who offered him the role a few weeks ago. “I found myself facing President Giuseppe Ruzza and the head of women's football, Paolo Tosetto, who began to make speeches to me,” he said.

According to Cavasin, the dialogue highlighted a void in the technical leadership of the women's representative team, prompting him to consider the offer. Initially he was skeptical, not because of the gender but because of the coach role, which does not involve daily presence on the pitch.

The coach also revealed that he had received proposals to manage the men's national teams of Rwanda and Congo, but he chose the women's project because “women’s football is growing sharply.”

In recent years, the team has regained positions relative to the major European nations, a sign of steady progress that Cavasin intends to consolidate.
