Alavés count on West Ham Sarah Brasero to boost midfield
Alavés were promoted after finishing runners‑up in the Reto Iberdrola, securing a place in the Spanish top tier for 2026/27. The club now faces the challenge of consolidating its position among elite Spanish sides. Adding a dynamic midfielder is seen as a way to bolster the squad as they adapt to the higher level.
Deportivo Alavés have secured a season‑long loan for Sarah Brasero for the 2026/27 campaign. The loan was confirmed by the Hammers on their official website earlier today. The move places the 21‑year‑old midfielder in the Spanish Liga F Moeve competition.
Sarah Brasero arrived at West Ham United from Portuguese Liga BPI club Estoril last summer. Her transfer brought an England youth international into the Hammers’ ranks after leaving Portugal. The midfielder is 21 years old.
In her first season with West Ham, Brasero made 12 appearances across all competitions. She scored two goals during that period. Those contributions offered a glimpse of her potential at senior level.
West Ham indicated that they cannot guarantee regular minutes for Brasero in the upcoming season. The club stated that she needs consistent game time to continue her development. Consequently, the loan decision was taken to provide that opportunity.
At Alavés, Brasero will aim to build experience against elite opposition in the Spanish top flight. The loan is expected to sharpen her skills and adapt her to a higher competitive standard. The Spanish league will test her against some of Europe’s best players.
Alavés hope to settle into the new league without too many difficulties. The club’s recent promotion suggests they are eager to avoid a swift relegation. Strengthening the midfield is part of that strategic approach.
Brasero is one of three players to leave West Ham United today. Teammates Jessie Stapleton and Jess Ziu have moved to Barclays WSL2 club Leicester City on permanent multi‑year deals. Their departures underline a broader squad reshuffle at the Hammers.
