Alaba's youth club pushes for a return, three months without a club
Just under three months after his departure from Real Madrid, David Alaba remains without a club, while in Austria, according to SPOX, intensive discussions are taking place about a possible return to his youth club Austria Wien. The former international, who let his contract run out at the end of June, is training on his own to stay fit.
Austria Wien contacts Alaba
According to SPOX, Austria Wien has already contacted Alaba to explore a return. Former coach Frenkie Schinkels publicly criticized that the club officials must definitely approach Alaba.
Austria defender Aleksandar Dragovic confirmed that the club had made contact. He pointed out that Alaba and he have been long-time national team teammates and that the Vienna officials have certainly not remained idle.
Additionally, the media mentioned Hamburger SV and the Mexican club America as possible destinations. Previously, Lazio Rome, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Inter Miami were also at the centre of the rumors.
After his contract with Real Madrid expired in June, Alaba has not yet found a concrete move. Since then he has been keeping himself fit individually.
Former German international Dietmar Hamann has since speculated about a possible end to Alaba's career. For the upcoming international break, he was not selected by Austria's head coach Ralf Rangnick, even though he has not officially ended his national team career.
The ongoing uncertainty surrounding Alaba's future shines a light on the challenges free agents face after the end of a top‑club contract. A possible step back to Austria Wien could be significant both sporting and symbolic for the former captain of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
