Ajax's new signing battles for a midfield foothold at the ArenA

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

On a crisp evening at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Ajax’s recent signing Tolu Arokodare was spotted lingering on the midfield spot for five to ten minutes before the match against Shelbourne, a detail highlighted by Ronald de Boer on Ziggo Sport at 19:54 today (Vandaag).

"Did you see him before the game? Tolu was standing on the midfield spot, I think for five or ten minutes," Ronald de Boer said, adding, "He was there completely alone. Then he went inside. That should work out well tonight, I think," he laughed.

The Nigeriaan striker is described as physically strong with "prima" technique, speed and the ability to be used in transition. De Boer noted his technique is "oké" and that while he is not the same as Mika Godts, he is still "prima". He admitted he does not know him well and will have to see him in action.

Ajax has loaned Arokodare this season from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with an option to purchase built into the deal that could be exercised next summer.

At Wolverhampton, the forward had fallen out of favour, prompting the move to Amsterdam where he hopes to revive his career.

The 25‑year‑old striker starts on the bench against the Irish (Ieren) for the upcoming Ajax – Shelbourne clash.

The presence of the Nigeriaan on the bench underscores Ajax’s willingness to utilise the loan option and gives the Aanwinst a chance to prove his worth in the Dutch capital.
