Ajax push for Arokodare as Wolverhampton loan looms
Ajax have approached Wolverhampton Wanderers today to negotiate a one‑year loan for 25‑year‑old striker Tolu Arokodare, the 1.97‑metre forward, according to an update posted at 13:55 and 14:15 on Vandaag. The Dutch side hope to bring him to the Johan Cruijff Arena for the upcoming season, with an option to buy.
The discussions between Ajax and Wolverhampton have progressed so that the Amsterdammers hope to approve the deal this week, but several formalities remain. Met the agreement in place, the striker is expected to spend a year at the Johan Cruijff Arena, and Ajax retain an option to purchase. DuijnAjax reported that the negotiations are advancing quickly.
Ajax previously secured Marcos Leonardo as a forward, yet the club still seeks a target man to fulfil the role Wout Weghorst occupied over the past two seasons. With Arokodare, the Amsterdammers believe they have identified that player.

Arokodare’s career includes spells at Valmiera in Latvia, FC Köln in Germany, Amiens in France and KRC Genk in Belgium. He was under contract with Genk from 2023 to 2025 before moving to the Wolves, where he made 38 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals and providing two assists. He recently attracted attention after a controversial incident.
The concrete interest in Arokodare indicates that the role of Kasper Dolberg has been played out in Amsterdam. Dolberg, bought last summer for roughly ten million euros from Anderlecht, is now allowed to leave and could join FC Midtjylland, though other clubs have also shown interest.
If the pending steps are completed, Ajax expect to confirm the loan within the week, positioning the 25‑year‑old at the Johan Cruijff Arena for the upcoming campaign.
However, a few administrative steps still need to be completed before the loan can be registered, meaning the final approval may come later this week.
