Ajax ends Marijn Beuker's tenure after months of doubt over his role

🇳🇱

Ajax have ended the directorship of Marijn Beuker (41) with immediate effect. The Amsterdam-based club’s recently appointed supervisory board—set to be largely renewed in March 2026—had for months questioned Beuker’s performance in the football-director role.

The decision to terminate his contract was discussed and agreed with the club’s executive leadership. No further details about the separation terms were disclosed.

Beuker joined Ajax in 2021 and held the position of football director throughout. His departure marks the end of a five-year association with the club.

The new supervisory board, whose majority renewal is scheduled for March 2026, has taken a decisive stance on governance standards. The board’s early intervention signals a shift toward stricter oversight of executive performance.

Club insiders note that the board’s dissatisfaction crystallised over the past six months, culminating in the decision to act now rather than wait for the scheduled renewal process.

Ajax’s statement confirmed the change but offered no additional commentary on Beuker’s future plans or potential next steps within football.

The Amsterdam club has begun the process of identifying a successor to lead football operations, with the search expected to conclude before the end of the calendar year.
