Ajax chase Bissouma, only Sancho remains the most valuable free agent

In Amsterdam, Ajax are working on signing former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma, whose contract expired in the summer. With a market value of ten million euros, he is the most valuable free agent after Jadon Sancho, with only Sancho being valued higher.

Market Value and Free Agent Status

The 27‑year‑old Bissouma is among the most expensive free professionals with a ten‑million‑euro price tag, a sum that places him at the top of the free‑agent list after Sancho. The transfer rumours are accompanied by numerous market‑value analyses that scrutinise the current market values and competitions.

Previous Clubs and Injury

In the summer of 2022, Bissouma moved from Brighton to Tottenham for €29.2 million, where he scored two goals in 111 appearances. In the last season he only made eleven appearances because a knee injury kept him out for a long period.

Since December 2024, his market value has fallen from a previous peak of €35 million to ten million euros, a decline that is widely discussed in club forums and on Bundesliga forums.

New Signings and Current League Position

Technical director Jordi Cruijff signed eleven new players in the summer, including the Germans Thilo Kehrer, Julian Brandt and Marc ter Stegen. Kehrer and ter Stegen arrived on loan from AS Monaco and FC Barcelona respectively, while Brandt joined on a free transfer after his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired.

"You haven't won a title for four consecutive seasons. If you just keep going as before, it won't get better. Then you have to look for solutions and try to be creative," Cruijff explained, emphasizing that the risks associated with the new signings must be minimised.

After five matchdays, Ajax sit in fifth place with ten points, but have played one game fewer than their rivals. The team hopes that with the possible one‑year contract for Bissouma, which includes an option for a further year, they can once again compete for the titles.
