Ajax and Real Betis eye Troy Parrott as £25m‑plus target
Ajax and Real Betis have made contact with AZ Alkmaar about Ireland striker Troy Parrott, signalling serious interest from both clubs. Their outreach follows a period of strong performances that have put the 24‑year‑old on the radar of several European sides.
The negotiations could see a fee that goes beyond £25m, matching AZ's long‑standing valuation for the player. Many observers consider that price a bargain for a forward with a high ceiling and still considerable potential to grow.
Meanwhile, Fulham, Como and PSV Eindhoven are also surveying the situation, each hoping to intervene if a deal materialises. The trio represents four different countries and adds competitive pressure to any agreement between AZ, Ajax or Real Betis.
Parrott delivered a spectacular international spell in November, scoring five goals against Portugal and Hungary during the break. Those strikes propelled Ireland into a World Cup play‑off, underscoring his impact on the national side.
His club record is equally impressive: 33 goals in 61 league games for AZ, including 16 goals from 28 appearances last season and 14 from 30 in his debut campaign. The consistency of his scoring record highlights why top clubs are eager to secure his services.
Parrott himself is open to another move abroad, crediting his development in the Netherlands after joining AZ from Tottenham Hotspur in July 2024. The earlier transfer cost £6.7m and followed loan spells at five different English clubs, including Millwall and Preston North End.
Real Betis appear especially keen, but the challenge lies in agreeing a package that satisfies AZ’s £25m target while meeting the Spanish side’s expectations. The coming weeks will determine whether Ajax, Betis or another suitor can finalise the deal and bring the Irish forward to a new league.
