Ajax and Cambuur discuss ending Van de Pavert’s loan after two months

On a damp training pitch in Leeuwarden, the echo of a half‑time whistle highlights a loan that has stalled. Ajax and SC Cambuur are now negotiating the early termination of Ryan van de Pavert’s season‑long move, a deal that was meant to last a full year.

Tim van DuijnAjax reported that the clubs have opened talks to dissolve the loan contract. The agreement originally intended the defender‑midfielder to spend a year in Leeuwarden, gaining Eredivisie experience.

Eredivisie experience turned short

Cambuur offered Van de Pavert at the end of June a chance to acquire a year of top‑flight action in the Eredivisie. However, the likelihood now points to the spell ending after just two months.

Van de Pavert has struggled to settle at Cambuur and has expressed a desire to return to Ajax. Both sides therefore see termination as the most practical solution.

Bij Ajax, Van de Pavert remains under contract until 2029. If the loan is cancelled, he will rejoin Jong Ajax, the club’s reserve side.

He logged 24 appearances for Jong Ajax, but has not yet broken into the senior lineup. He is classified as a defender‑midfielder, a role that the loan was meant to develop further.

At Cambuur, Van de Pavert started the opening match, earning a place in the starting eleven. After the half‑time break against Excelsior, he did not feature again for the Leeuwarders.
