Ajax-aanwinst aims to erase injury doubts: ‘Dat gaat goed!’

The 34‑year‑old German goalkeeper arrives at Ajax with a clear mission: to silence lingering concerns about his injury record, a point he underscored with the confident words “Dat gaat goed!”. The Ajax‑aanwinst, Marc ter Stegen, has been reporting steady improvements each week.

De Duitse sluitpost completed his long‑awaited transfer to Ajax this week and will spend the upcoming season on loan at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The move places him directly into the Dutch capital’s training base for the 2024‑25 campaign.

Ter Stegen has struggled with a series of troublesome injuries over recent seasons, missing numerous matches. Those setbacks also plagued his final loan spell at Girona FC, limiting his playing time there.

His most recent competitive appearance dates back to 31 July, highlighting the length of his absence from match action. Since then, he has focused on rehabilitation and conditioning.

When asked about his fitness, the player replied to several Dutch outlets, including Voetbal International, De Telegraaf and Algemeen Dagblad, with the short affirmation “Dat gaat goed!”.

He explained that he resumed training in early July, stating, “I am now back in training for a few weeks, I started at Barcelona on 2 July to finish my rehabilitation (hamstring injury, red). That was a goal for me, to be available as soon as possible.”

Reflecting on group sessions, he added, “In the group trainings and matches you really get a sense of where you stand. I feel I am back.”

Addressing any need for caution, the 34‑year‑old goalkeeper said, “No, no. Every time you rehabilitate from an injury you work a lot on your body. Work that you can’t realistically do in detail over a whole season.”

He concluded with gratitude toward Barcelona’s medical staff, noting, “I am very grateful to the medical team at Barcelona; they guided me excellently. I felt in very good hands, and it turned out fantastically. Stronger than ever is the goal, hopefully! Fingers crossed I stay fully fit this season and can help the team every three or four days.”
