Aguirre's Valencia task begins after two‑week pause ahead of Racing
Javier Aguirre will take charge of Valencia for the first time on 11 October, when the club travel to Racing de Santander after a two‑week FIFA break, giving him 17 days to ready his side.
Appointment and experience
The Mexican tactician was presented on Wednesday 23 September as Valencia's new head coach. Aguirre, a former Mexico national team manager, arrives for his seventh Spanish assignment, having previously led Osasuna, Atlético de Madrid and Mallorca among others. The club added the announcement as a preferred source on Google.
Preparation window
Valencia dismissed Carlos Corberán after four defeats in their opening five La Liga fixtures, paving the way for Aguirre’s arrival. The team currently sit penultimate with just four points from a possible 21 and have lost four of their last five matches. A two‑week pause for the FIFA international window provides Aguirre ample time to implement his ideas before his debut.
Aguirre’s appointment gives Valencia a lifeline as La Liga woes mount
Valencia’s next encounter is scheduled for 11 October at the Campos de Sport de El Sardinero, where they will face Racing de Santander in La Liga’s eighth round. Racing are also struggling, so a victory could lift Valencia significantly up the table.
Following the Racing game, Aguirre’s side will confront Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal, both formidable opponents, meaning the new manager must ready his squad quickly for a demanding run of fixtures.
