After Xhaka's suspension, Swiss FA drops Embolo from the squad
After the exclusion of captain Granit Xhaka, the Swiss Football Association stood before the press on Friday and announced that Breel Embolo, forward of MLS‑club Atlanta United, is officially and completely removed from the national team, without giving a reason.
The Swiss press reports that the suspension is linked to a fine handed down in November 2025, after Embolo allegedly submitted false COVID test certificates. The association has given no further explanation.
The decision comes shortly after the earlier exclusion of captain Granit Xhaka, who was also removed from the squad without explanation.
