After his provocative gesture during a goal celebration, the DFB talent Paris Brunner must miss several games in the French Ligue 1 because the LFP disciplinary committee deemed the action unsporting. The decision follows a video that showed the player mimicking a throat slash, and it means he will miss the upcoming matches against FC Toulouse and FC Lorient.

Four‑match ban

Following his gesture, Brunner was suspended for four league games, with two games suspended on probation, as announced by the disciplinary committee of the French football league federation LFP. The ban applies in Ligue 1 in France.

The incident occurred in the 1‑1 draw against Racing Strasbourg, when Brunner scored the equaliser in the 71st minute and then performed the throat‑slash for the crowd. The fans responded with a chorus of whistles, but the gesture was not penalised on the pitch.

According to the French newspaper L’Équipe, referee Éric Wattellier said he had not seen the gesture. Despite this statement, Brunner was punished retroactively.

Because of the ban, Brunner will miss the upcoming league games against FC Toulouse on October 10 and, eight days later, against FC Lorient.

The 20‑year‑old, former U‑17 world and European champion said he heard insults about his family from the Racing fans and felt provoked as a result.
