After a decade at RB Leipzig, Gulácsi heads to Villarreal

Goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi, 36, has left RB Leipzig to sign for Villarreal after 11 years, having made 296 Bundesliga appearances and kept 96 clean sheets since joining the German club in July 2015. His departure marks the end of a decade‑long spell that saw him help the side rise from the second tier to become a Bundesliga mainstay.

Gulácsi arrived at RB Leipzig in July 2015, just before the club's last campaign in the second division of German football. He played a pivotal role in the promotion push, contributing to Leipzig's ascent to the Bundesliga at the close of the 2015/16 season.

Over the following years he cemented his reputation as one of the league's most reliable custodians, regularly featuring between the posts. His record of 96 clean sheets across 296 top‑flight matches underscores that consistency.

"Saying goodbye after 11 years is incredibly difficult. RB Leipzig was never just a club to me. Leipzig has become a second home for me and my family, and the people here will always have a special place in our hearts," Gulácsi said.

He described Leipzig as a second home for his family and expressed deep gratitude for the support he received. The Hungarian international added that the city and club will always remain part of him.

The 36‑year‑old now embarks on a new chapter with La Liga side Villarreal, ending an 11‑year association with RB Leipzig. His departure was announced with an emotional farewell statement.
