AC Milan’s €80m gamble on Gonçalo Ramos: a long‑term strike boost

🇮🇹

AC Milan have secured the signing of Portuguese striker Gonçalo Matias Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain FC for a reported fee that could rise to €80 million, and the forward has agreed a contract that runs until 30 June 2031. The move was confirmed by the club on Tuesday with an official statement.

Ramos was born on 20 June 2001 in Olhão and developed his talent in the youth academies of S.C. Olhanense and S.L. Benfica. He made his professional debut in 2019 and went on to record more than 100 appearances and 41 goals for Benfica, helping the Portuguese side clinch the Primeira Liga title in the 2022/23 season.

In the summer of 2023 Ramos transferred to Paris Saint-Germain FC, where he added three Ligue 1 crowns, two Coupe de France trophies and three Trophée des Champions to his résumé. His Paris stint also yielded two UEFA Champions League titles, one UEFA Super Cup, one FIFA Intercontinental Cup and 45 goals in 131 matches.

Ramos earned his first senior cap for Portugal in November 2022 and has since amassed ten goals in 26 international outings. He featured at two FIFA World Cups and contributed to Portugal’s UEFA Nations League triumph in the 2024/25 season.

Milan announced the signing as part of their summer recruitment drive, aiming to strengthen the attack while still targeting central defenders and midfielders for the upcoming campaign. The club’s statement highlighted the forward’s experience at the highest European level as a key factor in the acquisition.

Ramos is currently on Portugal duty at the 2026 World Cup and will become available to new Portugal coach Ruben Amorim after the tournament and the summer break. He will then join AC Milan ahead of their Serie A season, which opens with an away match against Torino on 23 August.

Photographs of Ramos in a PSG shirt were captured by David Ramos at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup semi‑final in New Jersey and by Lars Baron during the 2026 Champions League final penalty shoot‑out in Budapest. These images underscore his recent involvement in marquee European fixtures.
