Aberdeen secure versatile striker Ntelo to boost attacking options
Aberdeen have moved to fill a striking void by signing Belgian forward Mitchy Ntelo on a two‑year contract with an option for a third year, giving the Dons a versatile attacker after his recent departure from Swiss side Yverdon‑Sport this summer.
Manager Stephen Robinson explained that the Dons lacked a forward who can switch between central and wide roles. He said, "Versatility was one of the biggest attractions" when assessing Ntelo. Robinson also noted that the striker’s height and speed complement Aberdeen’s attacking options.
The agreement runs for two seasons, with Aberdeen retaining the right to extend it by a third year should Ntelo meet agreed criteria. This structure gives the Dons flexibility while securing Ntelo’s services for the immediate future. The optional year hinges on performance benchmarks set by the club.
Ntelo declared he is "ready to play for the fans" and eager to contribute to the club’s historic support base. He added, "This is a big step for me, in terms of joining a club with such a great support and history, so it is a proud moment to be here."
The Belgian forward can operate both centrally and on the flanks, a quality highlighted by Robinson. The manager added, "He is tall, exceptionally quick and, importantly for us, is equally comfortable playing as a central striker or in the wide areas." This gives Aberdeen another dimension in those positions while providing competition at centre‑forward.
Born in Liège, Ntelo began his professional journey with Standard Liège before a loan spell at Dutch side MVV Maastricht. He later featured for Zebra Elites and Charleroi back in Belgium, followed by a brief stint at Bulgaria’s Lokomotiv Plovdiv. After moving to Switzerland with Yverdon‑Sport, he spent part of 2026 on loan at another Bulgarian club, Botev Vratsa.
Approaching 150 club appearances, Ntelo has amassed 30 career goals. He scored six times in his most recent season with Botev Vratsa, demonstrating a consistent scoring record across several leagues.
Robinson concluded, "He gives us another dimension in those positions while still providing genuine competition at centre‑forward whenever we need it. He has shown during his spells in Bulgaria and in Holland that he knows where the goal is and we believe there is still plenty of development ahead of him."
